Hi, I'm Julie.

I love people, especially teenagers. Really.

I'm a technology leader, family advocate, and parent encourager who believes that even in the chaos of raising teenagers, joy is not just possible... it's essential.

In the middle of my career in technology and leadership development, with my lifelong passion for family strengthening and advocacy, I created Plot Twist Parenting — a podcast and platform for parents who sometimes feel more successful at work than at home. (Been there.)

Check it out here, or scroll for more:

Plot Twist

Hosted by Julie Winchester Workman, a parent, advocate, and former behavior analyst, PTP is grounded in real-life experience and a deep belief in the power of connection. You won't fine one-size-fits-all advice or shiny highlight reels — this is a space for truth-telling, laughter, reflection, and encouragement.

Parenting teenagers is not for the faint of heart. But it's possible to parent with more purpose, more joy, and way less fear.

Whether you're in a season of closeness or conflict, curiosity or chaos, Plot Twist Parenting is here to help you walk behind your teen with love, courage, and trust.

Parenting Pillars

Plot Twist Parenting is a podcast designed for people parenting teens — especially those who’ve read all the leadership books, taken the training, and still sometimes feel stuck when it comes to getting through to their kid.

I promise it's possible to have a deep and meaningful relationship with your teen. I agree, it may sound impossible. Each of the five pillars *sound* easy...

About Me: Some Plot Twists

College, Grad School, Post Grad:

I-O Psychology and

Applied Behavior Analysis

I started college at Florida State on a marine biology scholarship but unexpectedly found my passion in behavior analysis. After earning a master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Clemson and completing postgraduate work at UWF, I became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

I never told my kids’ teachers that, though.

Before Kids:

Consulting... and then actually running a business

According to Gallup, my top strength is Strategic Thinking (thanks Gallup!) which explains why I loved consulting. After working for the State of Florida teaching Positive Parenting courses my husband Matt and I ran a family business until the market crashed (thanks, real estate!).

That economic shift — along with new doors opened through my volunteer work with the Junior League — led me into nonprofit leadership, where I discovered a whole new way to blend strategy with service. I have an engraved acrylic award to prove it!

All Things Tech:

Nonprofits run on technology so I learned a lot of tech

I’ve spent years in the tech world leading teams, developing ideas, and building systems that actually work — and work for humans. I should mention that I have a very fancy jacket that's given in recognition of world-class contributions in tech and community. As a leadership development nerd I’ve helped global organizations grow with clarity, culture, and compassion.

Community Service:

It's unpaid in some ways, but richly rewarding in others

James 1:27

I've always believed in showing up — especially in the spaces where people feel unseen. I led the effort to found our high school’s PTSO to build stronger bridges between parents, students, and educators. Whether it’s in boardrooms, classrooms, or holding space inside jail walls, I keep coming back to the same belief: people are worth investing in.

PARENTING:

Mom of two amazing, dynamic, sometimes-challenging kids

I’ve raised two wildly unique teenagers and opened my home to many others along the way. From volunteering in schools to late-night car talks, I’ve lived the beautiful, brutal truth of parenting in real life — and I believe connection and unconditional love are the most powerful tools we have.
